Hello there, I’m Nicki,

Also known as “the magpie maker”.  Why am I here? I think this sums it up;

“A creative life is an amplified life. It’s a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life”.

(Elizabeth Gilbert, “Big Magic”)

Here are a few facts about me, the magpie

About The Magpie Maker…

Everyone navigates their own path through life, rough and smooth. Like most people I have had my rough patches. During the roughest of patches I discovered that moments of peace came from becoming absorbed in crafts.

I had always been a “Blue Peter” girl who loved making stuff but now I realised that it went further than that. Creating stuff brought me joy. The focus needed for crafting distracts and allows anyone to forget for a while and relax.

When anyone stretches their creative muscles those muscles become stronger and more flexible. I discovered that I was more creative than I had realised and began to search out ways to broaden my horizons through blogs, magazines and websites.

My confidence got a huge boost when I saw just how many people there were out there who liked the same things I did!

As I emerged from my shell I took workshops and evening classes. I met “real people” who were local to me and I had things in common with. We talked about everything and our blushes were spared by our focus on our crafts. I made friends and we helped each other.

We move what we're learning from our heads to our hearts through our handsI have seen crafts forging links to help the community.  They give the old and the young common ground and provide a refuge from anxiety, depression and stress. People with stupidly busy lives find breathing space and perspective. I want to spread these aspects of crafting.

As “grown ups”, living our busy lives we forget that expressing our creativity is one of the things humans were put on this planet to do.

EVERYONE is creative.  Not using your creativity doesn’t kill you but unused creativity doesn’t just disappear. It lives in us until it’s expressed, neglected to death, or suffocated by resentment and fear.

I want everyone to use their creativity.

In my little corner of Winchester I provide activities to inspire the busiest of people into bringing creativity back into their lives.

Never forget that just “making stuff” can be that powerful!
